Dr. Sam Varon

Veterinarian

Dr. Sam Varon is a graduate from the University of California, Davis with a degree in Animal Science and the distinction of highest honors. He went on to attend UC Davis’ School of Veterinary Medicine, where he specialized in companion animals. He has special interests in surgery, reproduction, oncology and end of life care.
He is skilled in soft palate and nares resection, screw tail surgery, various eyes surgeries, and other surgeries crucial for short-faced breeds. He also has an interest in surgeries including TPLOs and fracture repair.
Dr. Sam’s love for animals shows through his exemplary commitment to helping the animal community of Sacramento. He volunteered for the Mercer Clinic for the Homeless, which provides free veterinary care for the animals of the homeless. He also volunteered for the underprivileged in Central and South America, performing surgeries on both their cats and dogs.
When not taking care of Sacramento’s pets, you can find Dr. Sam out with his dog rescues: Autumn, Ziggy, Piper, Meka and lastly miniature pig named Gracie. He is a big fan of fitness, and in his spare time, you will find him snowboarding, fishing, and any other outdoor activities.

Dr. Tyler Baum

Veterinarian

Dr. Tyler Baum is a two-time graduate from University of California, Davis with a Bachelor of Science in Animal science with a minor in psychology as well as a Doctorate degree in Veterinary Medicine with special interests in avian and exotic medicine.
While Dr. Tyler loves seeing all the cats and dogs, his greatest passion is treating pets that are a bit smaller. Some of his favorites include: Guinea pigs, rabbits, hamsters, exotic birds, reptiles, and yes even the occasional chicken.
Working with animals has always been one of Dr. Tyler’s greatest passions, he carries this love for animals wherever he goes, volunteering abroad in at need communities as well as with wild animal conservation groups in a variety of foreign countries including Nicaragua and South Africa.
When not taking care of Sacramento’s animals, Dr. Tyler can be found either at home with his wife Andrea, and their three kitten fur babies, Toast, Butters and Dr. Professor Stripey Pants, Wine tasting throughout the Northern California wine regions, or out in nature, hiking and working on his photography, some of which can be seen throughout our Hospital.

Dr.Sasha Hazelton

Veterinarian

Dr.Sasha Hazelton spent her undergraduate years at UC San Diego pursuing her Bachelors of General Biology prior to earning her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine with UC Davis. Before finding a home here at Broadway Veterinary Hospital she spent several years
working at a 24/7 emergency and ICU hospital in the Bay Area. While she enjoys all realms of general practice she has a particular interest in emergency medicine, soft tissue surgery, and nutrition.
Dr. Sasha’s love for all animals great and small shows through her medical volunteer work in both local and international communities - including wildlife
rehabilitation in Peru and Thailand, preventative care clinics in Nicaragua, and the Nine Lives Shelter in the Bay Area.
When Dr.Sasha is not with your beloved pets she is likely exploring nearby hiking trails with her partner Max, cooking a meal with friends, attempting to garden, beekeeping, or singing to her cats when she thinks no one else is around.

Dr. Pietro Catini

Veterinarian

Dr. Pietro Catini spent his undergraduate years at University of California, Davis pursuing his Bachelor of Science in Animal Science with an emphasis in livestock and dairy prior to earning his Doctorate degree in Veterinary Medicine from Western University of Health Sciences in Pomona, CA. He then spent several years in the California central valley practicing dairy medicine while continuing to serve his community by providing mobile small animal services and participating in local SPCA spay and neuter clinics before finally making his way back to the Greater Sacramento area. Dr. Catini enjoys working with most creatures big and small and has particular interest in ruminant animals and our pawed furry friends. He also enjoys soft tissue surgery and small animal dentistry. When Dr. Catini is not in the hospital, he can be found exploring the surrounding wine regions, hiking local trails, or at home with his fiancé Tana Jo, dog Chica, and cat Black Bean.
